Brewery, Winery & Taproom Design

As breweries and wineries face tighter margins and heavier competition, a standout taproom or tasting room isn't decoration anymore — it's survival. Partnering with an architect who understands bar design, beverage-industry requirements, and true placemaking is what turns a good space into a destination people keep coming back to.

Brewery, Winery & Taproom Design

Specialized services for creating memorable food & beverage spaces:

Taproom design builds customer loyalty

The success of brewery taprooms hinges on delivering a distinct and memorable guest experience. In landscapes saturated with regional competitors, it's vital to be the go-to destination. Achieving this requires a blend of captivating entertainment and a unique brand interpretation. Beyond aesthetics, the practicalities of bar design and a comprehensive understanding of restaurant design principles and codes are integral to the planning process.

At Crafted Destinations, our approach combines expertise in creating functional bars with a rich background in placemaking, resulting in standout brewery spaces. We understand that success lies not only in visual appeal but also in the thoughtful consideration of design pragmatics.

Increasingly, that loyalty depends on what a taproom offers beyond the beer itself. We're seeing more breweries add real kitchens and full dinner service — capturing guests who used to leave for a restaurant next door once happy hour ended. We design that integration from the ground up: kitchen placement, service flow, and a dining experience that works with the taproom atmosphere instead of against it.

Expanding to an additional taproom?

Unique opportunities exist to extend and enrich brewery brand experience with an additional taproom. Once a new location is secured, the primary focus shifts towards crafting a cohesive interior design and curating an experience that seamlessly aligns with guest expectations. Creating a standout taproom that keeps guests returning is crucial.

In our approach to each design project, we view it as more than just a space transformation; it's the crafting of a 'third place' for our clients' customers. This core concept takes precedence in all planning decisions, driving the development of a taproom design that prioritizes guest comfort and engagement, fostering a lasting connection and compelling patrons to return for more.

Wineries & Tasting Rooms

The same principles apply directly to wineries and tasting rooms: guest flow, a bar or tasting counter that anchors the room, and materials and lighting that turn a functional space into a memorable one. Our work on Wine Me Up Social — a wine bar built from a converted office space, complete with its own kitchen and private event rooms — reflects that same hospitality-first approach. We're actively pursuing more tasting room work, and bring the same placemaking rigor to it that's shaped our brewery taproom projects.

Taproom & Tasting Room Trends to Watch

In the evolving landscape of breweries, crafting exceptional beer is no longer the sole requirement. With a substantial portion of revenue generated from taprooms, it's imperative that these spaces rise above the competition. The design of a taproom must now be innovative and elevated, rivaling the ambiance of popular restaurants.

Focusing on how taproom guests perceive their environment—seeing, smelling, hearing, and tasting—keeps them returning. While good food is essential, the most successful brewery taprooms also prioritize lighting and music. Crafting a lighting strategy goes beyond dimming—it's an art. Sound is balanced for different areas, and, not to be overlooked, the taproom should smell as inviting as it looks!

Brewery visitors seek more than just beer—they crave a complete experience, complemented by the chance to take the brand home. Overlooking brewery merchandise, or settling for haphazard displays, is a missed opportunity. By integrating a dedicated space in the taproom design for showcasing unique merchandise, there's potential for higher sales and increased brand visibility.
